      Things to know when building

Building a custom home can be the largest single investments of time, money and energy that you will ever experience in life. There are many great custom home builders here in the Asheville North Carolina area and with land being offered at below market value in some areas then perhaps building is an option for you. You will need thoughtful preparation, proper planning, and detailed project coordination for a successful home build project here in the Asheville or surrounding mountains of Western North Carolina.

      Understanding the contract

You will be party to one of the largest money contracts in your lifetime, so it is very important that you understand the terms of the contract in regards to the build out of your dream home. Read your contract in great detail and understand what the builder is providing as part of the contract. Many items in the contract are merely budget type items such as kitchens, baths, lighting, plumbing and flooring. If your individual tastes are lavish then you will quickly go over budget on many items so please understand what is included in the base price of your new home. New home construction will typically be more expensive than buying an existing home, but you will always get the home you want.

Trust your builder and be flexible

You should do research before picking a builder. Check to make sure your builder is in good standing with the local home builders association and community. You will probably want to check out references and look at some of the homes he has built. Be ready and prepared to resolve situations as they come up during the build phase of that new home by compromise. The builder is fully capable of doing anything and making any kind of changes on the home design, but remember that these changes will all come at a cost to you the home buyer. Understand that errors can happen in construction and absolute perfection or your idea of perfection may not be able to be achieved. Building a home can be a great achievement and one of the biggest accomplishments you will ever know in life.
