      The main mission of the Asheville Area Arts Council is to unify area artists and creative professionals so that they can thrive and become a collaborative effort in the Asheville community. By providing both support, through grants and access to opportunities, the AAAC strives to offer the local art community the resources it needs to be successful, grow and flourish.       For more than 60 years, Asheville Community Theatre has been delighting people with great shows here, making it the oldest continuously operating theatre in the Asheville area. The Theatre offers comedies, musicals, and dramas in their 399 seat venue. The Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre was founded in 1979, and is Western North Carolinas first professional modern dance company. The company performs in Asheville up to 80 times per year, and also travels abroad to perform shows. The Asheville Lyric Opera is the professional opera company of Western North Carolina and is in their 11th season of performances here. Many other local and travelling opera, ballet, dance, and music concerts are held at the Asheville NCs Thomas Wolfe Auditorium which is also home to the Asheville Symphony.
